North Manchester FM: A Helping of History, Tuesday 16 October, 12-2pm

Tune in to North Manchester FM on Tuesday at 12 for another Helping of History. This week, I’m going to be talking about a (now) North Manchester-based business that turned 150 years old last week… the Manchester Evening News.

Based now at Hollinwood (on a site that has featured on the show twice, in its previous incarnations), the Manchester Evening News began life in 1868. I’m sure the paper needs little introduction, so I’ll be sharing some of the quirky stories of its history. How did the paper start? Who was Mitchell Henry? What contribution has the MEN made to British newspaper history?

And speaking of the Manchester Evening News, I’ll also be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers. And you can pit your wits against the Who Am I? quiz – just how well do you know North Manchester’s landmark buildings?

Catch the show on Tuesday at 12 on 106.6FM (if you’re in the North Manchester area) or listen online (if you’re further afield).

Missed the show? You can catch it again here:
