North Manchester FM: A Helping of History, Tuesday 17 July, 12-2pm

Join me on Tuesday at 12 for another Helping of History on North Manchester FM. This week, I’m going to be talking about a dark chapter of Harpurhey history – the unsolved murder of Sarah Jane Roberts.

Sarah Jane was a servant in the home of Mr and Mrs Greenwood of Harpurhey. In January 1880, she was murdered by an unseen, unknown and undetected assailant. The case sparked a nationwide investigation, involving reports from psychics, false confessions and early forensics. But the killer of Sarah Jane Roberts had simply disappeared as though he’d never even existed. Find out more about this strange episode in our local history on the show!

In addition to this, I’ll be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers. And you can pit your wits against the Who Am I? quiz – just how well do you know North Manchester’s landmark buildings?

Catch the show on Tuesday at 12 on 106.6FM (if you’re in the North Manchester area) or listen online (if you’re further afield).
