North Manchester FM: Hannah’s Bookshelf, Saturday 24 November, 2-4pm

Join me on Saturday at 2pm for more from Hannah’s Bookshelf on North Manchester FM. This week, my guest will be the fab Andre Govier.

Andre is an author from North Yorkshire. After hearing on the radio one day that only 10% of books which get downloaded on Kindle are actually read by the purchaser, he started to write books especially for teenagers and young adults. These were easy to read, first-person narratives which had age-appropriate comedy storylines, but they could easily be consumed in one day. The first of these books was Liar Girl, which tells the story of a 16-year-old girl, who, although not a bad person, is a compulsive liar.

Andre is also an ambassador for the Manchester-based charity Reverse Rett, who are working tirelessly to fund a cure for the devastating neurological development disorder that is Rett Syndrome. He has taken part in many events and raised large amounts of money for this cause to help put a condition ruining the lives of 350,000 into history. He used his writing skills to tell the story of a mother who had a daughter with Rett Syndrome, from birth through all the stages of this condition’s development, in a book called Living Like Livvy. All proceeds from the book are being donated directly to the charity.

I’ll be talking to Andre about Living Like Livvy, and his other writing. And, of course, he’ll be sharing his selections for this week’s Apocalypse Books.

Catch the show on Saturday at 2pm on 106.6FM (if you’re in the North Manchester area) or listen online (if you’re further afield).
