Join me on Tuesday at 12 on North Manchester FM for another Helping of History. Today I’m going to raising something of a complicated question – What is North Manchester? And I’ll be looking at the Curious Case of Beswick.
When you think of Beswick now, you probably think of it as a district of east Manchester. But what is its historical identity? And why was it once part of North Manchester? On this week’s show, I’m going to be introducing a bit of the history of Beswick (and its close neighbour Bradford), and talking about what this tells us about the creation of North Manchester township in 1896 and the wider history of Manchester.
As well as this little trip to Beswick on the show, I’ll also be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers.
Catch the show on Tuesday at 12 on 106.6FM (if you’re in the North Manchester area) or listen online (if you’re further afield).
